As a raw material, ivory has been used to manufacture wide range of objects, normally associated with sumptuous material culture. In this article we explore the role played by and artefacts among early complex societies, particularly its importance in definition identities emergent elites. To end, make thorough examination evidence from Copper Age Iberia, focusing on mega-site Valencina, southern Spain.
